Custos is software for recording where physical case files are. Firms label folders, scan them, and keep a running record of every move. These terms are an agreement between JK Filing LLC and the firm that uses the service.
Creating an account is free and requires a verified email address. Access to a firm's records exists only where that firm has invited the account. The firm is the customer: its administrators decide who has a seat, what appears on labels, and how the firm's settings work. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials to yourself.
Everything a firm enters into Custos belongs to that firm. A complete export of all records, including the full movement history, is available at any time from inside the app, on every plan, in every account state. We do not sell firm data or use it for advertising.
The free plan includes a limited number of file records. Paid plans are billed through Stripe, monthly or annually, and can be changed or cancelled at any time. Cancelling a paid plan returns the firm to the free plan: existing records stay intact and readable, moves can still be recorded, and only the creation of new records above the free limit is paused. Going over a paid plan's limit never blocks recording where a file is; it only limits creating new records after a sustained overage and a grace period.
A firm that stops using Custos entirely can request a close-out. Records remain available read-only for 60 days so the firm can take a complete export. After that window we do not guarantee continued storage, though we never delete records automatically. A retention plan is available to keep a closed firm's records readable indefinitely.
The movement history is append-only by design: entries are never edited or removed, and corrections are recorded as new entries. Custos records what its users enter and scan. The accuracy of the record depends on how the firm uses it, and JK Filing LLC does not verify the physical location of any item.
Use Custos only for lawful purposes and only with data you have the right to store. Do not probe, overload, or interfere with the service, attempt to access another firm's records, or resell access without our written agreement.
Custos is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. It is a tool for tracking physical items. It is not a docketing or deadline system, it does not provide legal advice, and it must not be relied on as the sole safeguard for court deadlines, limitation periods, or any professional obligation.
To the fullest extent the law allows, JK Filing LLC's total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount the firm paid for the service in the 12 months before the claim arose. JK Filing LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or professional-liability damages, including claims arising from a misplaced file or a missed deadline.
We may suspend or end access for a breach of these terms after reasonable notice, except where the breach threatens the service or other customers, in which case we may act immediately. The export right in "Your records are yours" survives termination.
We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. Questions go to jamesknapstad@gmail.com. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Montana.
